  • From 1986 to 1990 the artist lived in a refugee camp in Hong Kong. In the Metropolis she was drawn to a lotus pond time and time again. From this experience the artist painted 1.5m x 2m large watercolours over six months. The subject is not portrayed naturalistically, but enlarged thirty times, which creates a distance between painter/viewer and object. The repeated movements of the artist are of a meditative character. The result is a series of nine equal motifs.

The petals of the lotus flower are applied layer upon layer with diluted red watercolour. Like a whiff they lie on the paper. Where the colour dries, reliefs are formed along the outlines, like prints in the snow or scars.
